evaluation of fatigue properties of asphalt mixtures containing reclaimed asphalt using response surface method
Authors
abstract
this paper presents the effects of different amounts of reclaimed asphalt on fatigue life of asphalt mixtures. central composite method was used to design of experiments based on response surface method (rsm). binder type (pen 60/70 and pen 85/100), reclaimed asphalt pavement (rap) content (25, 50 and 75%) and loading strain (150, 250 and 350 micro strain) were selected as independent variables, while 50% of initial stiffness, fatigue life and final stiffness of asphalt mixtures were chosen as dependent variables. in this research study, fatigue properties of asphalt mixtures were measured by using the four-point bending beam. the rsm analyses showed that all independent variables were significant factors for prediction of 50% of initial stiffness and fatigue life. in addition, analysis of the tests results showed that the mixtures containing higher amount of rap at lower strains, had higher final stiffness. furthermore, the fatigue life of specimens increased, when the level of test strains decreased. also at the lower level of loading strain, by increasing the rap content, the fatigue life was not decreased.

full textModeling of Resilient Modulus of Asphalt Concrete Containing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement using Feed-Forward and Generalized Regression Neural Networks
Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is one of the waste materials that highway agencies promote to use in new construction or rehabilitation of highways pavement. Since the use of RAP can affect the resilient modulus and other structural properties of flexible pavement layers, this paper aims to employ two different artificial neural network (ANN) models for modeling and evaluating the effects of ...

full textThermal and Fatigue Evaluation of Asphalt Mixtures Containing RAP Treated with a Bio-Agent
Environment conservation and diminishing natural resources caused an increase in popularity of the application of renewable bio-origin resources for the construction of road pavement. Currently, there are known additions of bio-origin materials for bitumen modification. Such material is also used as a flux additive for bitumen or as a rejuvenator once working with reclaimed asphalt pavement (RA...
full textIdentification Effect of Nanoclay on Engineering Properties of Asphalt Mixtures
Nanoclays are new generation of processed clays of interest in a wide range of high performance composites. In other words, nanoclay is defined as a clay that can be modified to make the clay complexes compatible with organic monomers and polymers. Here, it can be said that the polymeric nanocomposites are among the most exciting and promising classes of materials discovered recently. A number ...
